A New Winery Has Arrived on the Sunnyslope Wine Trail: Welcome, Gem 73!
If you’re looking for another reason to explore Idaho wine country, we have some exciting news: there’s a new winery on the Sunnyslope Wine Trail! Please welcome Gem 73 Winery, a new addition to the Sunnyslope wine scene located at 21254 Chalk Hills Lane in Caldwell, Idaho. If you’re already a fan of spending an afternoon cruising the Sunnyslope Wine Trail with a glass of Idaho wine in your hand, Gem 73 is one you’ll want to add to your list.

Meet Gem 73
Gem 73 is rooted in Lanae Ridge Vineyard in Sunnyslope and was created by longtime wine lovers Joel and Teresa Poppen, along with vineyard owners Jay and Shelly Hawkins and winemaker Greg Koenig.
But Gem 73 isn't just focused on what's in the glass. Their philosophy is centered around connection—bringing people together, slowing down, and creating a place where you actually want to stay awhile.
Their motto says it perfectly: “We grow wine. We pour connection.” The idea is simple: wine is the reason to gather, but the people and the memories are what make the experience. Honestly, isn't that what a wine tour is supposed to be about?

A New Stop on an Already Great Wine Trail
The Sunnyslope Wine Trail has long been one of our favorite places to spend a day. With vineyards, rolling hills, gorgeous views of the Snake River Valley, and a growing collection of wineries, there is always something new to discover. Now, Gem 73 gives wine lovers one more reason to head up the Slope. The winery's tasting room is designed to feel welcoming and relaxed rather than overly formal. Reservations are welcome, but walk-ins are expected, and the goal is an unhurried experience where you can enjoy your wine, take in the views, and spend time with the people you're with. Gem 73 also plans to offer food, events, and opportunities to see more of what happens behind the scenes of the wine in your glass.
If you've already visited some of the longtime favorites along the Sunnyslope Wine Trail, now is the perfect time to plan another wine-country adventure. If you've never experienced Sunnyslope before, what are you waiting for? At Western Mountain Wine Tours, we love introducing people to Idaho's local wineries—and we're especially excited whenever another winery joins the trail.
A wine tour isn't just about visiting three wineries and checking them off a list. It's about the drive through the vineyards, the conversations with your friends, discovering a new favorite wine, laughing way too loudly after the second tasting, and coming home with a few bottles you'll be very excited to open later. With Gem 73 joining the Sunnyslope wine scene, there's another stop to discover and another place to make some memories.
